In October we were excited to announce our partnership with University Press Online Scholarship to create Mississippi Scholarship Online. And now we are excited that Mississippi Scholarship Online is now live and operational.
Mississippi
Scholarship Online (MSSO) makes almost 200 key UPM titles available
online in XML format on one single, user-friendly, state-of-the-art platform
for the first time. With the addition
of UPM titles, the total number of titles available at UPSO is almost 15,000.
Additionally, befitting our reputation
as a preeminent publisher of comic and graphic novel criticism, MSSO has
created a brand new ‘Comic Studies’ sub-discipline to UPSO’s Literature subject.
And to celebrate the launch of MSSO, a selection
of chapters from some of our key titles have been made free and available for
one month. Read chapters from the books selected by just following this
link and choose from a selection of six books.
But may we suggest to celebrating this Music Monday with a chapter
from Phillip Ratcliffe’s Mississippi John Hurt: His Life, His Times, His Blues. The chapter “Rediscovery
and Sweet Success" is available in it's entitery here. This chapter describes the rediscovery of Mississippi John
Hurt by aspiring young guitar player Tom Hoskins. It covers Hoskins' search for
Mississippi John Hurt; the contract drawn up between Hurt and Music Research
Incorporated, covering management and recording, and signed on March 15, 1963;
Hurt and his wife's move to Washington D.C.; and Hurt's increased popularity
during the winter of 1963–64.
