Three University Press of Mississippi titles have been named to the latest Outstanding Academic Title list from Choice. The 2010 selections from UPM are:
- Unexpected Places: Relocating Nineteenth-Century African American Literature by Eric Gardner. Gardner recovers the work of early African American authors and editors such as Weaver who have been left off maps drawn by historians and literary critics
- Dictionary of Louisiana French:As Spoken in Cajun, Creole, and American Indian Communities. The definitive reference tool for understanding the large inventory of French vocabulary in Louisiana
- Of Comics and Men: A Cultural History of American Comic Books by Jean-Paul Gabilliet, translated by Bart Beaty and Nick Nguyen. Originally published in France, this book documents the rise and development of the American comic book industry from the 1930s to the present.
These outstanding works have been selected for their excellence in scholarship and presentation, the significance of their contribution to the field, and their value as important--often the first--treatment of their subject. Choice Outstanding Academic Titles are truly the "best of the best.
